At 7:00 pm on Sunday, October 3rd, 2010, 4 to 8-year old children, along with their parents, extended family members, teachers, caregivers and other 'Imagination Travelers', will answer the call to: "...open the eyes in your ears and listen close as another chapter unfolds."

According to our astrologers, our psychics, our attorneys, our cardiologists and our media consultants - this is the day we've been waiting for.

Truth to tell, there's a great deal of work to be done between now and then. And, what better way to spend one's time than by becoming a part of this grand effort?

You may ask yourself... "Oh, but what can I really do?"

Here's two things that come to mind:

1. Money is in the process of being raised. You can help us reach our goals by: contributing directly to the cause: and/or, by telling others who have the ability to invest all about what we're doing so they can invest, as well. We're talking about both tax-deductible contributions in smaller amounts, and/or investment capital underwriting in much larger amounts.

2. You can offer to join the 'OR&CO Team'. Are you a writer, a theatrical director, a voice talent, a graphic artist, an office manager, a video technician, or the like? If so, now's the time to let us know - who, what, when, where and why - you would be a good fit for what OR&CO is all about.

"Inspiring young children to read!" is wonderful work to be doing. Yet, this initiative was not created by a single person with a solitary idea about one program.

Reading, literacy, laughter, positivity, inclusiveness, compassion, imagination, caring, creativity - these are all individual pieces of a much larger Ocean Rudee concept.

Collaboration has been vital from the beginning and it will continue to be so - as each new chapter unfolds.

Where: “Way out on a windswept seacoast…”

What: ‘Imagination TravelVision’ Brings Children's Books to Life!

Why: Greatly increased levels of scenic activity have been detected near 'The Lighthouse' and throughout 'The Village'. Local residents report being taken to places they’ve only been able to dream about in days gone by. Plus, ‘opening the eyes in their ears’ has taken on a whole new meaning for the men, women and children living in this small coastal community.

Friends and neighbors alike are now beginning to speak out about the profound impacts they’ve recently experienced.

“Big changes have begun to happen. Jolly good ones at that.” – Barnacle Babs - ‘Village Seafood and Fresh Fish Market'

“I’ve never seen anything like this before in all the years I’ve lived here.” – Koichi Tojima - ‘Tojima’s Village Hardware’

“My Mom drove me into town yesterday and from what we could see it will never be the same again.” – SalliJane Peters 10-year old student

All in all, folks who have known and loved the way things ‘used to be’ in this part of the world are feeling good about the changes. Though as Mr. Tojima remarked, “It’s still going to take some getting used to.”

From what has been observed to date the following can now be reported. Ocean Rudee, the local Lighthouse Keeper, has begun to go ‘visual’ with his storytelling activities using ‘Imagination TravelVision’ or ITV. Now, instead of going off with eyes closed into the never ending land of their own imaginations – Ocean Rudee’s friends are able to ‘see’ entire children’s stories as they were originally created by the author and the illustrator.

Gus Logan, local farmer and best friend of Mr. Rudee, stated, “Plain and simple – ‘Imagination TravelVision’ sets a storybook free from its bindings!”

Let's Get Busy... "Inspiring Young Children to Read!"

It's a proven fact that boys and girls love to listen to stories being read-aloud and that reading-aloud enhances a child's interest in reading, facilitates their ability to learn how to read and showcases books as sources of pleasure and information. Educators agree that improved reading skills - when combined with positive attitudes about the importance of reading in our day-to-day lives - will open a gateway for young people to the whole of human knowledge. Plus, being able to read and comprehend books and related print media resources turns them into stepping-stones, rather than roadblocks, on a pathway to the World Wide Web - the 'Information Super Highway' of modern society.

There is a group of men and women in Northern California who bring books to life for children and young families - the young and the young at heart - through the magic of radio theatre. I am fortunate to be a part of this team and today on the 4th of February 2009 I'm continuing an active social networking process to declare our intention to make the world a better, happier, more informed, more understanding, more tolerant and creative place in which to live. And, to invite any and all who might read this declaration to join us on our bold and colorful adventure.

The Ocean Rudee & Company 'ship' was launched earlier this year after a fairly long period of development, refinement, experimentation and collaboration. The vessel is currently being stocked up with supplies, resources (of both the monetary and human capital variety), as well as a tremendous amount of psychic, emotional, physical and non-physical fuels. Ocean Rudee & Company/OR&CO has been developed for the purpose of increasing children's interest in books, reading, reading aloud, laughter, Imagination Travelin', radio theatre and the World Wide Web.

Our combined vision is that OR&CO will become...

1. A 30-minute weekly radio theatre program (to be broadcast on either public or commercial radio stations in the United States and abroad) which has been developed exclusively for the purpose of: Inspiring Young Children to Read!

2. An age appropriate interactive online World Wide Web site (designed and created especially for 4 to 8-year old boys and girls and their families ) in order to promote their interest in books, reading, reading-aloud, literacy and the increased usage of their imaginations - Imagination Travelin'.

3. A select series of educational 'Talking Books' - Ocean Rudee Imagination Travel Kits - available as audio CD's or video DVD's that will feature theatrical adaptations of some of the best children's literature in the world as read-aloud by Ocean Rudee & Company.

4. A Primary Grades (K-3) classroom-based state standards approved reading resource program built around the ongoing adventures undertaken by the Ocean Rudee & Company cast of characters as they continue: Inspiring Young Children to Read!
